Super simple ways to reduce allergens in your home.

If you suffer from allergies then you will know how frustrating this can be. You may feel as though you are constantly sniffling and that no amount of work will stop it. If this sounds like you then there are a few things that you can do to try and help yourself.

Start with the Bedroom

If dust is one of the problems, then you need to cover your mattress and even your pillows with some dust-mite covers. You also need to try and wash your bedding every week, as this will help to stop build-up. Dust also has a way of accumulating on the skirting board behind your bed, so take the time to really focus on those areas too.

Wall to Wall Carpets

Carpets are notorious for trapping allergens. This can include pet dander, dust and more. If you can, you need to make sure that you replace it with hardwood or another similar type of impervious flooring. The main reason for this is because when you walk across carpet, it will re-release the allergens into the air.

Invest in some Doormats

Lay down a few doormats at each entryway. Ideally, you should have one on the inside and then another on the outside. This will help to keep any outdoor irritants from getting inside and it will also help to keep your home clean too.

Get a Better Vacuum Cleaner

If the vacuum cleaner that you have right now does not have a HEPA filter, then you need to make sure that you invest in one. The best thing about these types of filters is that they trap particles that are as small as 0.3 microns, which is ideal if you suffer from a serious allergy problem.

Change your Air Filters

Heating and cooling systems are great, unless you forget to clean them out. You will usually find some guidelines for this in your instruction manual, so make sure that you follow them and always replace them if they look to be wearing out. Air filters can trap allergens and redistribute them around the home, so if you are having a major episode then it may be worth getting that looked at. A reliable air conditioning repair company will usually be able to help with that.

Ditch the Drapes

Believe it or not, blinds and shades trap far fewer allergens when compared to fabric window treatments. If you do NEED to have curtains, then opt for ones that can be washed with ease. They are far easier to keep dust-free and you can also vacuum them as well if you want. This will make it much easier for you to eliminate any build-up.

Watch out for Mold

Mold can grow just about anywhere in your home. Sometimes you might not know that it’s there until you move your TV or even pull out your sofa. If you want to help yourself then check around the home for any signs, and use a quality mould remover to deal with the problem rather than just using a damp cloth.
