Do you have decking at the back of your property? If so, you’ve probably wondered about how you can improve it. Take a look at some of these options.

Add Piles Of Pillows

Want to get family and friends to spend more time on your decking? Simple – just make it more comfortable. The more pillows and cushions you add, the better.

Remember, today, you can get outdoor cushions that won’t go smelly or rot if you leave them out in the rain. Plus, many modern designs are beautiful and colorful, allowing you to experiment with your decor or match it to your interiors.

Add Planters

You have planters all over your garden, so why not add them to your decking too?

Planters help to add depth and height to your decking. Instead of it just being a flat platform, these additions make it feel more three-dimensional and colorful. Popular plants include lantana, coleus, and fuchsia, but your options are pretty much limitless.

Add Attractive Seating

While you could choose to go with cast iron chairs, it’s unlikely that people will actually want to sit on them for any length of time. It’s much more comfortable to simply walk inside and slob on the couch.

Now compare that to the experience you get with wood adirondack chairs. Both you, your family, and your guests can recline and relax in comfort. It’s a much better setup.

Add A Railing

Want your deck to be safer and look nicer at the same time? Then why not add a railing? Railings are great because they help to add character. And if you’re thoughtful about your choice of material, you can use them to complement your home’s style, features, and architecture.

Add Bright Colors

Adding a pop of color is one of the best ways to enhance the appearance of your decking.

Sometimes, deck can look a little boring and serious. But adding brightly painted furniture or colorful outdoor rugs can make all the difference in the world. Suddenly, it starts to feel a lot cozier.

Put Up Screening

If you want your decking to be more private, you can also put up attractive screening to prevent the neighbors from peering at you as you try to relax.

There are both natural and manmade ways of doing this. For instance, you could use fast-growing evergreen hedges to create a kind of natural barrier between you and the person next door. Or, if you wanted, you could use reed, bamboo, or wood screens placed strategically around the decking area.

Create A Sunblock

While you enjoy being outdoors, spending hours and hours in direct sunlight is generally a bad idea – not to mention uncomfortable. Adding some sort of canopy to your decking can, therefore, be extremely helpful. Plus, it provides some protection from the elements, allowing you to continue enjoying a meal, even if the heavens open and the rain starts pouring down

So, there you have it: how to make the most of your decking. Will you try any of these ideas?
