The 8 Limbs of Yoga

One of the beautiful things about yoga is the movement itself is only 1% of it. There is so much more to yoga. There are eight limbs, and when we practice asanas and going through the sequences of the movement, we are going to a place in our head that we’re bumping up against – these things that we can’t do yet, and that’s why we come back, and that’s why it’s called a practice. Because we have to go to this place to overcome these challenges. We learn so much within our brains that we continue to practice. We continue to want to learn whatever that new thing is – whatever that sequence is. I encourage you, within your movement, within that time on your mat, that you’re taking the space to go deeper, to realize that this is so much more than movement. This is a lifestyle.

The 8 Limbs of Yoga
1. **Yama**: Ethical standards
2. **Niyama**: Self-discipline
3. **Asana**: Physical postures
4. **Pranayama**: Breath control
5. **Pratyahara**: Sense withdrawal
6. **Dharana**: Concentration
7. **Dhyana**: Meditation
8. **Samadhi**: Bliss or enlightenment

The beauty of Asana lies not just in the physical challenge, but in the journey inward to meet yourself and face your challenges. That’s why it’s called a practice – it’s about growth, patience, and self-discovery.
