How Women Can Make Money From Home During the Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has made a significant impact on working women in the United States. As of February 2021, only 55.8% of women were participating in the workforce, which is the lowest rate since 1987. Some women have lost their jobs, while others have been compelled to stay home and care for children. Being home all day, even if you’re with kids, can be isolating and stressful — full-time caregiving is a hard job! And if your family was accustomed to the income you were bringing in before the pandemic, then you are likely navigating serious financial challenges, as well.

Through The Sweetest Little Life, I strive to help women heal and realize their full potential in mind, body, and spirit. Here are some practical tips for how you can generate income through online work-from-home opportunities:

Start freelancing.

The idea of freelancing has been around for a long time, but it’s never been more popular than it is today. The benefits are a major motivator for workers taking the at-home, freelance path — because who doesn’t want freedom, flexibility, and convenience? However, the primary reason it’s become so popular is that technology makes it a practical choice for many people. In many cases, you can complete your work with just a computer and maybe a few other tools.

Unlike an employee, freelancing allows you to work on your terms when it comes to choosing clients, coming up with a schedule, and deciding how much to work. Many freelancers start with part-time work and build to full-time.

The opportunities for finding freelance work are wide-ranging. You can offer graphic design, social media marketing, or even book editing services. Start forging your path by joining an online job platform where clients will compare your rates, delivery times, and reviews with others.

Publish a blog.

If you like writing, consider starting a blog. You can become a successful blogger by writing about pretty much anything. As long as you have a unique voice, a knack for grammar, and a few marketing tactics up your sleeve, you might be surprised by how quickly you can garner a following. Some bloggers write about their personal lives and experiences, such as work and parenting, while others write articles for different companies in a wide range of industries.

Become an entrepreneur.

If you want to go a step above freelancing, you could start a home-based business. This is ideal if you have a solid idea for a unique product or service that people would need or want. Just be sure to conduct market research to ensure there is a niche for your idea in your local (or global) market.

Getting a business off the ground takes a lot of work, but it can prove lucrative and fulfilling if you dedicate the time. You will need to ensure that you have a healthy, comfortable environment to work in at home so that you can handle all the necessary preparation tasks and daily operations for your business.

You’ll also need to create a strong brand that you can begin marketing as soon as possible. Before and after your launch, promoting your company through social media, email, and other channels can do wonders for building your reputation and customer base.

While this pandemic has had undeniable effects on U.S. women, the bright side is that there are more opportunities than ever before to make money from home. Along with the ideas mentioned above, you could also look for companies that are hiring remote employees, drive for a service like Taskrabbit or Uber, sell your unwanted items online, and so much more. Start brainstorming and researching to figure out what steps you should take next!
