10 ways to decorate a Mud Room.

10 ways to decorate a Mud Room.

When we first moved into our home this was one of my favorite spaces. However I turned it into a “craft room” making it completely not useful for its original design. Living in the country and have three kids (two of which are constantly playing outside in red dirt) I learned quickly a mud room and space to actually fold laundry was absolutely essential for me to have. Being on a budget I was able to create a happy little space for under $300 which is completely productive. Today we’re walking through all the tips & tricks on completely transforming a clutter zone into an organized space.

  1. Clear that clutter! I can’t express the importance of this step. When you start a room make sure all the junk is out first. If you haven’t used it in 90 days than get rid of it! Starting with a clear and clean space is huge in visioning exactly how you want your end result to turn out.
  2. Deep Clean. I love starting with a sparkly space! Every thing from the ceilings to the floor I scrub. This creates nice tidy drawer space, organized cabinets, all the nooks and crannies that only you can see still scrub! (It truly does something mentally in feeling refreshed and ready for what’s next!) Magic Erasers are my serious go to for projects such as this.
  3. Know your style… If you are unsure start scrolling Pinterest and pin fifty house pins you admire. After seeing the continued style on your board you will know if its modern, contemporary, farm house, country, rustic, vintage…..So many to choose from! I love making different changes in every room but continually having it all flow together. For this particular space I chose Farm House.
  4. Make it practical! If I’ve learned anything in this giant renovation its that anything you make un useful will not get used and you will eventually spend more time and money changing it! Let’s face it…time is your most valuable asset. The one thing you can never get back. Use it wisely.
  5. Simplicity is key! I choose one centerpiece of a room and a few decor pieces to balance it out because my ocd comes into full effect if the space is not “balanced”.

6. Space Savers are everywhere! Get creative! I absolutely love the ironing cover for the dryer vs. the traditional ironing board and it saves a ton of space! I also went with a bench shoe cubby instead of a rack so it has dual purposes.

7. The centerpiece I chose was “Laundry Today or Naked Tomorrow” Get Your Custom Cut Here Craft Cuts is my go to for centerpieces. I am a bit of a word fanatic and love sweet or silly sayings through out the house. The fonts I used are Betterfly & Waverly for this particular piece.

8. Have fun with the space and make it your own! Remember colors are everything and as long as you have a nice flowing space it will all come together beautifully.

9. If you have no windows or natural light in a room make sure to add some sort of greenery to bring in the brightness in a natural way! I chose hanging succulents which I’m totally obsessing over! The perfect extra touch.

10. Head on over to the “Home” tab on the top of the webpage for full links of this room makeover and we managed to swing this entire space for under $300.00

Christmas in the Kitchen

Christmas in the Kitchen

The place we gather. The place we laugh. The place we drink. The place we feast. The place we pray.

The kitchen is truly the heart of the home so why not make it the heart of Christmas?

We decorate our entire home for the holidays, but in particular I find one spot to make the center focus and this year I chose the kitchen. I envisioned having mamas over for wine, baking cookies, creating elaborate gingerbread houses and it all happens in the kitchen! This year it was a no brainer this was my “special spot.”

My husband is a fan of traditional Christmas Decor and I love the pinks and non traditional color pops so we met in the middle for a modernized farmhouse style buffet.

Each year I search for custom pieces to add to our little decor collection as a family. The search is constantly on for custom pieces. This year I found the company Withermenots and fell instantly in love with her boho style pieces that you can dress up year round and use for multiple things. Then I learned she’s a fellow Mompreneur and had to share her story with ya all.

Meet Nathania

“I’m a stay at home mama of two boys and after having made a lot of diy florals weddings and showers (I have 2 sisters & 4 nieces and nephews ️), I started making floral letters to sell. I love all things home decor and floral so this is my combo of both! ️ I quickly saw how much I loved it and expanded a little to wreaths and wall hangings. I put a lot of love and time into each piece and truly enjoy doing it so so much! Surprisingly, the best part of this for me has been the love and support of my customers! Every happy message and positive review from them has brought so much joy to my heart!️ I know that this is only the beginning so I am looking forward to how this little business will bloom”

When decorating I find pieces to use seasonally and then pieces that are going to be permanent fixtures year round. With every new Season I love to create a main space that is warm, cozy and inviting.

Now its time to spill the secrets – The buffet I styled with almost everything we already had and just added a few things here and there to spice it up.

  • Buffalo Plaid Table Runner – Wayfair
  • Candle Holders – Antique Shop
  • Lamp – Goodwill
  • Sign – Hobby Lobby
  • Garland – Walmart
  • Rings –  Withermenots

We have this fun little tradition we do every year as a family where we buy one ornament and one village piece for something fun that has happened the previous year. For example in 2014 we got married so we bought a chapel village and an ornament with the exact replica of our cake. In 2015 my husband took a job with the San Francisco Fire Department so we bought a fire house village. Every year when I get our decorations out these memories just make me smile. It makes you truly focus on the good throughout the years. Let’s swap some traditions and maybe adopt some new ones!

How to add texture to your decor

How to add texture to your decor

You have the perfect find. The piece looks beautiful in the store under the perfect lighting, with the perfect placement, and you get home to put it in your “perfect” spot and it looks lonely.

It’s all about the textures…

So what is texture and how can you apply it to any decor?

I have the secrets for you ladies and tonight were spilling them! How to have a Pinterest worth home that is completely swoon worthy made easy.

Step 1: Layer your levels of height – If a shelf or mantle is completely symmetrical it tells no story and has no appeal to the eye. You want to have different levels of heights throughout your decor placement – For example put some greenery on a couple of books and then your centerpiece mirror with some taller candle holders on the other side to finish your look.

Step 2 — Play with materials: It’s always okay to mix and match, it builds character to any space and makes it interesting! I love using metals, wood, glass, greenery and fabrics when combining pieces in a small space. Below is an easy play by-play to get the imagination wheels spinning on how to mix and match properly. does a fabulous job at visually explaining this breakdown of different materials and how to work it!

Step 3 – Shelving and Throw Pillows are always a yessssssss.

(My husband hates my throw pillows because with children they get thrown everywhere but darn it for those few hours they are in perfect placement it looks like pure bliss and adds the perfect amount of dimension to any furniture piece.)

Step 4 – Do not over clutter

Guilty as charged…I am a picture fanatic… There are just so many special family memories I want blasted all over my home, however too many pictures will kill any room and make it feel overwhelming, pick a few designated spots just for a fun wall gallery or a few cute frames but KEEP IT SIMPLE. Just like when you were learning how to apply makeup and your mama told you less is more, the same goes for putting your entire instagram gallery in your living room.

Step 5 – Lighting is everythanggggggg

Nothing brightens up a space like good lighting and fixtures, you can even diy and spray paint old pieces if you’re a DIY girl on a budget. Light creates space to be bigger, just as dark paint colors make spaces push in and appear smaller, whites and airiness make rooms appear twice their regular size!

Hopefully this gets you inspired to create the perfect shelf or little space that just makes you smile when you walk in the room. Simple & Sweet.

Happy Decorating Mama

How to decorate your mantel.

Mantels. The struggle is REAL. Its confusing right? A little off balanced here, a little a symmetrical there. For years I struggled with the art of changing up my mantel for seasons, holidays, etc and being succesful. When I sat back to relax and enjoy it, it looked like Santa puked clutter everywhere! We can not have that for a calming area of our houses! No way! No how!

Over the last few months I made it a goal to master the art of a clean and beautiful looking mantel. I want to share some tips, tricks, and hacks to help you in creating the perfect seasonal piece to catch any ones eye.

Ready to be DIY Interior Decorator? Here we go!

First always…and I mean always… begin with your centerpiece or anchor. (This is the piece you are putting in the center.) An anchor is something which is hanging such as a mirror etc. If you are in a smaller space a mirror as an anchor is a fabulous way to really make your space look bigger by reflection of light. A good rule of thumb is it’s the biggest item you are placing on the mantel so you want it to be the real eye catcher!

Our next step is moving onto what is called the “fillers”. Fillers are little knick knack fun items to fill the empty space around your centerpiece.

Once you have the fillers in place you have decided to use,  stand back and look to make sure you have nice combining textures and heights in the “filler” section. A wonderful way to add a little height if you have an item that is just too plain solo, you can stack some accent books and put the item on top of the books. Greenery is also a wonderful accent to brighten up or add a pop of color if it seems to be to neutral for you!

The final step in creating the perfect space for your mantel is the “weight”. The weight is the girth and height at the end of each side of the mantle! THIS DOES NOT HAVE TO MATCH~ for example, currently on mine I have a Big Lantern paired with a smaller one on the left side and on the right side I have a Silver Tall Vase of Tulips! It truly is all about your style and mixing it up!

Spring is  here! Hopefully this helps with a little confidence in creating a beautiful mantle Simply!

Happy Decorating Friends.
