The past year has been a difficult one for the majority of us. Nobody was prepared for the coronavirus and Covid-19 pandemic and it has been a situation that many of us have been attempting to deal with for almost a year now. The virus has spread around the world at a rapid rate and the vast majority of governments are struggling to deal with it. A consequence? The majority of people around the world are being asked to spend as much time at home as possible, minimising time spent with others and confining themselves to their own properties. Of course, it’s important that we listen to this. After all, we want to control the virus and reduce the number of lives it is impacting. But at the same time, if your home isn’t up to scratch, staying in all the time can quickly begin to feel stifling and uncomfortable. This is no way to start 2021! This is a new year and we want to turn a new positive leaf on things. So, what can you do? Well, the answer is to make an active effort to make your home as positive and comfortable as possible. Here are a few ways you can achieve a nicer atmosphere and environment!
Declutter
One of the main things that makes any home feel uncomfortable is clutter. But at the same time, most of us are guilty of collecting it! We buy and pick up all sorts of bits and pieces that we really don’t need on a regular basis. The resolution? To declutter your home. This may take a little time, but it’s more than worth the time and effort invested. Take a look at every item in your home. Ask yourself whether you use it regularly. If the answer is yes, it’s a keeper. If the answer is no, ask yourself whether it has genuine sentimental value. If the answer is yes, keep it. If the answer is no, it’s time for it to go! Dispose of all your unwanted and unneeded items properly. Where possible, sell, donate or recycle the items. Only throw them into general waste if they are unusable or beyond repair. Use clever storage solutions for any items that you do keep. This will minimise mess in your home.
Deep Clean
Once your home is clutter free, it’s time to deep clean. Deep cleaning involves tackling the tasks that you don’t have to face on a regular basis. Deep clean your carpets with a carpet cleaning machine. Wash your shower curtain. Remove books and items from shelves and give them a thorough dust and clean. Doing this will leave your home sparkling. Of course, you may unveil other issues while deep cleaning, such as finding damp and mould or pest droppings. If this is the case, call in professionals to help resolve the issue. In this example, you could call a damp specialist, or a humane pest control company to help.
Add Comfortable Touches
If you’re relaxing in your home a lot, it may be worth investing in some extra comfortable touches. Blankets, cushions, draft excluders… the list of options goes on!
Sure, it may feel difficult spending all of your time at home. But by making the changes above, you can make the experience a lot more pleasant and enjoyable!
