4 things to consider when buying a new car

If the time has come to purchase a new car and you are not sure where to begin then here is a quick guide for you to read. Below there are four things to consider when purchasing a car. Amongst other things you need to make sure you get a car that is suitable for your needs. Ask yourself what you will be using the car for.

Near the top of your want list should be comfort, when you shop around for cars be sure to sit in the driver’s seat and take it for a test drive. This will allow you to gauge comfort, the last thing you want if you are doing long journeys is to be uncomfortable.

Budget

The first thing you should be considering when shopping for a new car is your budget. How much do you have to spend on a car? Work this out first and then begin shopping around. You need to figure out if you are buying the car outright or on finance.

If you buy a second-hand car then this will be significantly cheaper than buying a brand new one. Of course, second-hand cars also come with the risk that you won’t get a lot of use before things start going wrong, they also tend not to come with warranties or guarantees.

Size

Another thing to consider when thinking about cars is the size of the car you need. The bigger the car the more money you will likely be paying. If you will be using it as a family car then you need to have enough room for everyone to fit comfortably. This includes enough room in the back for car seats and enough room in the boot for the buggy.

Safety

At the end of the day, you want to make sure you are safe in your vehicle. If god forbid there was a crash you need to make sure you and your passengers are protected. When new cars are made they are put through a series of rigorous tests. This includes a crash safety test, the results for your car will be very interesting so make sure you look at these before you buy a new car. If the car you have your eyes on didn’t score high then you don’t want to run the risk of driving around in it.

Running Costs

Finally, as well as the cost of the vehicle itself you also need to consider other costs involved with owning that car. You will need to factor in the costs of fuel, and more often than not diesel is more expensive than petrol. You also need to check out how much services and MOTs will cost. Insurance is also necessary, if you have a big fancy car like a land rover or jaguar for example this will push the premiums up quite significantly.

You also need to make sure that your car insurance has the option of a courtesy car should you be involved in an accident. Let’s take the land rover as another example, if your car is in the land rover accident repair centre then you are going to want to continue your day to day life. So having the courtesy car option on your insurance will be necessary for you.
