Ridiculously Common Excuses That Sabotage Your Health Goals.

In a perfect world, we would all be in the shape of our lives year-round. We’d stick with a healthy eating and exercise plan. And we’d get plenty of sleep to fuel us through our gruelling schedules.

But that’s rarely what happens. A late night in the office can reduce the amount of sleep we get which, in turn, can hamper our efforts to go to the gym and so on. One small thing seems to ripple throughout the rest of the week.

Eventually, we start making excuses for why we’re not making progress on the health front. We’re too busy, we tell ourselves. Or we’re too stressed. Or something is wrong with our backs.

Whatever it is, there’s always a cosy excuse we can fall back on when things get tough. We eliminate personal responsibility and put the reasons for our inactivity strictly down to circumstances outside of our control, according to mindtools.com.

Certain excuses are more common than others. Here we cover them in more detail.

Excuse #1: I Can’t Be Healthy And Have A Social Life

This excuse is a big one. People worry that adopting a healthy diet will mean that they can’t go out with friends.

That’s just not true. For starters, most places now have options for people following specific diets. And, second, diet is all about what you do 80 percent of the time. If you eat something unhealthy once in a while, it’s not going to make much difference to your overall progress.

Excuse #2: I’m Not A Gym Person

There’s no such thing as a gym person. Nobody was born in a gym. And even if they were, it has no impact on their future capacity for exercise.

Going to the gym is one of the most effective things you can do to lose weight and tone up because it provides the body with so much stimulation. You can exercise pretty much every muscle that you have.

Sites like curvesncombatboots.com point out the people who go to the gym can be sexy too. You don’t have to throw on an old t-shirt you got at a team-building exercise ten years ago. You can craft your outfit to make you feel more like you really are a gym person. You’ll be amazed what a difference just a few garments can make.

Excuse #3: I’ve Never Kept Weight Off In The Past

Believing that your efforts will be in vain is a great way to undermine any attempts you make to improve your overall health. What is the point of trying when you know you’re going to fail?

When you think about the logic of an excuse like this, it doesn’t make much sense. Ultimately, we all die, so trying to be healthy is, fundamentally, a waste of time. The trick is to somehow turn healthy living into something that provides you benefits right here, right now. Remember, most people who live healthily long term do it because they just enjoy how it makes them feel.
